I’ve always called the Mail Order Bride business the M.O.B business and now the Japanese Yakuza are proving it.

Learning from their out-of-work K.G.B brethren, they have turned their evil ways to match-making crimes. Now the mafia in Japan has begun to offer city men the promise of marrying a decent “old-fashioned” girl from the country side.
The whole scheme starts when a man who is looking for marriage calls a service he sees advertising to be a high-end professional marriage agency. He is then put in touch with one of the agency’s “best-brokers” and offered the privilege of joining the agency. This privilege plays to the tune of more than $800 dollars per month.
The man is set up on a dates with girls, until he selects one he likes, she is on the con too. The mobsters call these women Sakura “bait”. Depending on how much the scammers think they can squeeze out of one particular victim, they will string the chap along. Some victims have reported losses in excess of $650,000 dollars.
It is the job of the “professional broker” to keep the client fixated. He does this by slowly building the psychological pressure, teasing the victim with reports of the girl’s growing love and thoughts of marriage. Each month which goes by, the man is paying a monthly membership with the expectation of marrying the Sakura not knowing his wallet is being pumped dry. Sometimes the agency requires the man pay a “deposit” on top of the monthly fees.
